Ever Pretended to Speak a Language You Definitely Don’t Know?

Yeah… me neither.
Until I landed in Maldives. 🌴

I had been on Maafushi island for 2 days. That’s it.
I knew exactly two Dhivehi words:
"Kihineh?" (Which means… something. I wasn’t sure. Still not. 😅)

But that didn’t stop me. Oh no.
I went FULL MALDIVIAN.
Or at least… I acted like it. 🎭😂

The Morning I Became Fluent (in My Own Head) 😎

I walked into a café like I owned the place.
Looked the barista dead in the eye and said:
“Aharen Kihineh!”

They blinked.
I blinked.
Nobody knew what I was trying to say. 😂

But it sounded confident.
So they smiled and handed me coffee.
WIN.

The Strategy? Say Everything Like It’s a Secret Code 🕵️

"Fas miadhu?"
"Koaa dhanee?"
"Fen varah bodu!"
Translation: Absolutely nothing. I made it all up. 😆

But the secret sauce?
Smile. Nod. Look wise.
Boom—Maldivian local. 🌊

Then I Met a Real Local and… PANIC 😱

She greeted me in rapid-fire Dhivehi.
I smiled and hit her with my signature move:
“Kihineh?”
(Spoiler: It doesn’t mean “I don’t speak Dhivehi.”)

She burst out laughing.
I burst out sweating.
Friendship formed instantly. 😂💙

Moral of the Story?

You don’t need to speak the language.
Just pretend you do, say “Kihineh” a lot,
and enjoy the ride.
Also… maybe learn a few real words. 😅
